Being located pretty well smack-bang in the middle of Melbourne and Adelaide (Just a bit closer to Melbourne), we find ourselves hitting up the majority of shows in Melbourne. This time however, the Erra/Silent Planet gig fell into place perfectly on a Saturday night and the road trip was on! Melting our way into Radelaide we found ourselves arriving just after the opening act “Signals” finished up. From word of mouth they put on a really phenomenal show! Our first impression of walking into The Lions Art Factory was it was hot in there, steamy and sweaty. We were basically hit with an almost sauna feel, haha. Who cares though right? We were about to do what we love most, watch LIVE music!

Resolve

First cab off the ranks were French Metalcore outfit “Resolve”. Now, I can’t even begin to pretend I knew anything these guys but we were in for a surprising treat. They were good, very good and brought instant energy to the sweat pit that was the crowd, circle pits and good times all around. Silent Planet

Let the truth be told, Silent Planet are the reason we made the four-and-a-half-hour road trip, no pressure at all boys. Their 2023 album “Superbloom” has been on repeat pretty much since it was released. It will have you hooked in from start to finish. Earlier in the year driving towards the work fire zone, it was the soundtrack. It’s almost like the soundtrack to Armageddon, relaxing, somewhat gloomy and intense all at the same time. If you haven’t heard it, you really are missing out. As far as the band itself goes, I really didn’t know what to expect, only having seen a few photos and watching a couple of videos. However, these guys had stage presence, kicking their set off with Offworlder before cruising into Collider. It was almost best described as an “experience” more than a concert. Frontman Garrett Russell (shoeless might I add) had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he obliterated the ten track set concluding with “Trilogy”, a song he wrote after last visiting Australia and landing time out in an institution. Like I said, Silent Planet’s set was an experience. A MUST SEE one at that, these guys stole the show and lived up to all expectations. The accompanying visuals throughout their set only added to their epic stage presence and really are one of a kind. On top of this, Garrett was floating around in the crowd after Erra’s set taking pictures with fans and just seemed to be a genuinely great dude. Well played Silent Planet, amazing set!

Erra

Main event time, by this time we were beyond hot but ready for more. Always ready! Erra had a lot to live up to with their latest album “Cure” being another absolute must listen and the two previous bands setting a very high standard. Slow Sour Bleed almost blew the roof off the Lions Art Factory, or should we say melted the walls? The heat clearly getting to vocalist JT Cavey, who one song in announced “You got one more in you?”, before guitarist Jesse Cash cheekily replied back “That’s our last song”. Which I thought was hilarious! The heat wasn’t stopping Erra though as they barrelled through a laundry list of hits including Gungrave, Blue Reverie, Crawl Backwards Out of Heaven (my highlight) and many more before closing their set with Snowblood! You know we wanted more and we got it, the band who are clearly great dudes didn’t make us wait long for the encore and had us bouncing around with Rebirth before wrapping things up with Skyline. At one point JT told the crowd, it was like he had jumped out of a bath he was that sweaty. It also should be noted that he started the show off in long sleeves, that did not last long. Haha!

Live music is alive and metalcore is stronger than ever. What an epic night out. Did I mention it was really hot? Silent Planet vocalist Garrett said he had played thousands of shows in his career and this one was by far the hottest. We left dripping wet with sweat but smiles on our faces with new music to check out in Resolve and memories to last a lifetime!
